The Timaru Herald 6th July 1925 shows
The remains of the late T. H. Pye, of Temuka, were interred in the Temuka Cemetery on Saturday, and the funeral was very largely attended, those present including people form all parts of South Canterbury, and quite a number from North Canterbury. The pall-bearers were Messrs G. B. Cartwright (Mayor of Temuka), W. Philip, J. Leonard and J. O. Oliver (directors of the Temuka Co-operative Dairy Company), and the service at the house and at the grave was conducted by the Rev. J. R. Hervey, Vicar of St Peter's, Temuka. Many beautiful floral tributes were sent.
The late Mr Pye, who was widely known throughout Canterbury, was just as widely esteemed. Born at Winchester in 1877, his boyhood was spent in the Fairlie district. As a young man he returned to Temuka and entered into employment with the late Mr Job. Brown. At this time he was closely connected with volunteering in which he took an enthusiastic interest, and gained his sergeant's stripes. He was a good rifle shot and excelled in signalling. Later Mr Pye took to farming in the Milford district, and became chairman of the Milford School Committee. On leaving the Milford area he acquired a farm on the main road midway between Temuka and Winchester, where he has since resided. The late Mr Pye was one of the foundation members of the Temuka Co-operation Dairy Company, and retained his seat on the directorate of the company until the time of his death, and evidence of what the shareholders thought of his advice and service was given at each election when they placed him head of the poll. He had been offered the position of Chairman of directors, but he declined to accept this. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Temuka and Geraldine A & P Association, to which body he rendered much valuable service and he always gave very willing assistance to any movement for the advancement of the town and district.
The deceased is survived by Mrs Pye and a family of 2 sons and 2 daughters, the eldest son is Mr James Pye, a member of the staff at the Railway Booking Office, Timaru.
