A Pioneer Passes
One of the few remaining pioneers of the Temuka district, Mrs Eleanor Pye, widow of Mr Charles Pye, died at her home at Temuka recently.
Mrs Pye was born in England 82 years ago and came to NZ with her parents, Mr and Mrs S Dale when 17 years of age. Three years later she married Mr Pye. Most of their married life was spent in South Canterbury Mr Pye farming his land most successfully. About 23 years ago they retired to live in Temuka. After her husband's death 17 years ago Mrs Pye ceased to take an active part in public affairs though she was always a generous supporter of any deserving cause. Two sons predeceased her and she leaves 3 sons and 5 daughters, 32 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren to mourn their loss.
