My great grandfather sailed to New Zealand on May 29, 1828 on the Theadi with Dickie Barrett, John Love, Bishop etc. for New Plymouth. These men fought at the siege of Moturoa at the Okato Pa. It was stated that these men were big, powerful experienced fighting men, soul of the defence.
George Ashdown was buried at the Karori Church Cemetery 8th? November? 1858. His name is also on the Petone early settlers centennial memorial.

The New Zealand Spectator and Cook's Strait Guardian 23rd October 1858 shows
Died
At Johnsonville, Porirua Road, on Saturday, the 16th instant, after a long and painful illness, Mr George Ashdown, aged 53 years; many years a resident of Wellington and much respected and regretted by a large circle of friends

All person having any claims against the Estate of the late George Ashdown, Licensed Victualler, Johnsonville, are requested to send the same to the undersigned Executors. And all persons indebted to the Estate are requested to pay the same within One month from this date hereof.
