My great grandfather sailed to New Zealand on May 29, 1828 on the Theadi with Dickie Barrett, John Love, Bishop etc. for New Plymouth. These men fought at the siege of Moturoa at the Okato Pa. It was stated that these men were big, powerful experienced fighting men, soul of the defence.
George Ashdown was buried at the Karori Church Cemetery 8th? November? 1858. His name is also on the Petone early settlers centennial memorial.

At Johnsonville, Porirua Road, on Saturday, the 16th instant, after a long and painful illness, Mr George Ashdown, aged 53 years; many years a resident of Wellington and much respected and regretted by a large circle of friends
