Was a man of means, land interest included Braisty, a large English Farm, other land interests and a Woollen Mill. Can trace his forebears back to William the Conqueror and at times they held large tracts of lands. It appears his forbears backed the wrong side during the War of the Roses and had land confiscated. They lost more land in the Puritan era.
William Hebden, who seemed to be a hard man and a bit of a character, was said to have delighted in taking a horse and trap to Pately Bridge to scatter pennies along High Street for children to scramble for. His wife went regularly to tea with the Harkers of Harefield Hall.
1841 English Census might have William living with siblings and mother but the details are on the bottom of the page and are unreadable
