Wedding
Jonson - Pye
A charming picture of youthful freshness was the impression gained of Miss Grace Jean Pye, younger daughter of Mrs T.? (this should read I.) A. Pye, Featherston Street, and the late Mr J. Pye, of Whakarongo, as she came up the aisle of St. Andrew's Church, last evening, given in marriage by her uncle, Mr R. J. McAdie, of Wanganui, to become the bride of Mr Walter Melville Jonson, of Waitoa, Te Aroha, second son of Mrs M. J. Jonson and the late Mr A. S. Jonson, of Hunterville. The bride looked exquisite in her model grown of deep cream wild rose patterned angle-skin lace over deep cream satin; it was slim fitting and slightly trained with pearl buttons from the nape of the neck to the waist. The cowl sleeves, which were long, were pointed over the hands. The waistline was finished with a pearl belt. Her beautiful hand embroidered silk tulle veil was worn well off the face and formed a train finished with orange blossoms at the side. Cream stockings and cream satin shoes were worn. She carried an armlet of freesias, pale pink cyclamen and maidenhair fern, which completed a charming toilette. Behind the bride walked two picturesque maids, Miss Moya? (this should read May) Pye, sister of the bride, and Miss Margaret McAdie, of Wanganui, cousin of the bride. They were frocked alike in deep cream self-striped silk crepe on slim fitting lines, with cowl necks caught with green buckles and buttoned down the back to the waist with green buttons. The skirt fell in straight lines in front and the back was composed of a panel of frills from the waist to the hem and finished at the waist with a green velvet butterfly bow. They wore green and silver satin shows and green velvet caps, with a posy of fresh flowers at the side. Their trailed posies were of cyclamen, interspersed with violets and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was assisted by Mr Ian Lewer, of Morrinsville, as bestman, and Mr Alex Jonson, of Hunterville, brother of the bridegroom, as groomsman. Rev. J. Hubbard was the officiating minister, while Mr A. J. Graham presided at the organ. At the reception which was held the rooms were decorated in pink and cream. The beautiful wedding cake held a place of honour. Rev. J. Hubbard acted as toastmaster, Mrs Pye, mother of the bride, received her guests in a bottle green corded silk ottoman frock trimmed with shell pink georgette pleating, with green velour hat and brown musquash coat. She was assisted by Mrs Jonson, mother of the bridegroom, who chose wine silk trimmed with beige, and wine hat. They both carried pretty posies to tone with their frocks. The happy couple, who were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and cheques, testifying to their popularity, left on their wedding tour by car for the north amid showers of confetti and good wishes, the bride travelling in a nigger brown frock relieved with henna and beige brown hat with henna feather, also a brown French cloth coat trimmed with skunk collar. She wore snake skin shoes and carried a snake skin purse and accessories to tone. Mr and Mrs W. M. Jonson will make their future home at Waitoa, Te Aroha. Among the guests were visitors from Dunedin, Wellington, Masterton, Pahiatua, Napier, Wanganui, Hunterville, Morrinsville and surrounding districts. The bride was the recipient of three presentations and a kitchen evening from the Whakarongo residents. The bridegroom was also the recipient of a presentation from his fellow workers at Waitoa

Jonson Grace (Nana) Passed away Sunday, July 16, 1995
A sprightly "great" nan,
Not 60 did she seem,
This year to turn 90,
Now only in a sleepful dream
Her death was quite sudden
And hard to seem true.
For her daughters who loved her
And other family and friends too
But we all have our own
Special memories of Grace,
"Gracie" her fond name,
May you be in peace.
With love from your grand and great grandchildren
