Upper Hutt Town Board
-
At the ordinary meeting of the Upper Hutt Town Board on Monday night all the commissioners (save Mr. Benge, who was absent on holiday), were in attendance.
The Minister for Railways wrote to say that the matter of attaching a car to the late south-bound goods train was being looked into. A request from James Brown for a footpath at the northern end of Pine-avenue was received, and he is to be informed the matter will be considered when works already authorised are completed. A Dietz street lamp, for which St. Hilda's Vestry has volunteered to pay the cost, is to be erected at once on the Main-road opposite St. Hilda's Church. T. Ballinger and Co.'s quotation for patent water-meters was accepted. The report of the special meeting on duties required of a water inspector was referred back for further information. Commissioners Kemp, Robertson, and McCurdy were appointed a Special Committee to which the Town Clerk can refer in all matters of building specifications. A sum of 10 pounds is to be offered the Public Trustee for a perpetual easement over a portion of an old tramline leading to the board's waterworks. Commissioners Robertson, McCurdy, and Edwards were deputed to arrange with Mr. James Kearney in the matter of felling trees on the roadway on to his property so as to economise in the cost of the Trentham footpath. Commissioner McCurdy's motion to exclude inebriated persons from the meetings was refused by the chairman. The following motions by the same commissioner were adopted: —(1) That rotten rock of good quality, be used as a surface coat for the Trentham footpath in lieu of noxious-weed infested fine gravel; (2) that the board protest against being saddled with the cost of warning and protective apparatus at level railway crossings as proposed in the Railways Amendment Bill; (3) that the resolution approving of Messrs. Seaton, Sladdon, and Pavitt's proposals relative to the Post Office to Princes-street footpath be rescinded. A motion by Mr. McCurdy: "That A. J. Paterson, engineer, of Wellington, be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for, authorised works in Gibbons-road and Ebdentown-road," was held over until the January meeting.
