The death occurred yesterday morning of Constable John Joseph McDonough, who was a very popular police official. The deceased constable had been stationed in Invercargill for many years, having charge of the North Invercargill station for a great portion of that time. He enjoyed his usual robust health until a few weeks ago, when he was seized with some internal complaint, and gradually wasted away. Constable McDonough was noted for the lack of what is known as officiousness; he was a man who never sought trouble, and no more highly respected police officer has been stationed in Invercargill. He was 58 years of age, and was an Irishman by birth, arriving in New Zealand when quite a lad. Constable McDonough was a great athletic enthusiast, and he was also one of the founders and a consistent supporter of the Hibernian Band. He was also prominent in Roman Catholic Church affairs. He leaves a wife and a grown up family, who will have the deep sympathy of a wide circle of friends in the misfortune that has overtaken them. Constable McDonough for many years acted as Supreme Court orderly, and it was strange that his death should be coincident with the opening of the Supreme Court sessions yesterday
